WHY I'M RUNNING

I believe I can be useful.I’m running for Downey City Council, District 4 because I believe local government should listen, communicate clearly, and stay focused on the everyday needs of the people it serves. As a teacher, housing and water advocate, and community leader, I have seen how decisions about housing, infrastructure, public services, and neighborhood investment affect people’s daily lives. I want residents to be informed, heard, and included in the decisions shaping our city.

I won’t pretend to have all the answers. But I will do my homework. I’ll listen. I’ll ask good questions. And I’ll make responsible decisions.

LEADERSHIP Leadership is about the work.

I believe good leadership means bringing people into the conversation, respecting different perspectives, asking the right questions, and staying focused on what needs to get done. For me, leadership is not about having the last word. It is about being useful, accountable, prepared, and present for the community you serve.

My priorities begin with the everyday issues that affect how people experience life in Downey: responsive services, safe and healthy neighborhoods, housing, reliable infrastructure, and transparent government.
Housing
Support thoughtful housing solutions while considering affordability, neighborhood needs, infrastructure, and quality of life.
Safe, Healthy Neighborhoods
Water & Infrastructure
Focus on well-maintained streets, sidewalks, lighting, traffic safety, emergency preparedness, and community well-being.
Pay close attention to water reliability, streets, drainage, utilities, and long-term investments in aging infrastructure
Homelessness
Support practical, coordinated approaches that connect outreach, prevention, services, and housing stability.
Responsible Growth
Transparent Government
Approach development with attention to residents, traffic, infrastructure, local businesses, and neighborhood impacts.
Make city information easier to understand, improve communication, and create meaningful opportunities for residents to participate.
EXPERIENCE MATTERS Preparation. Accountability. Follow-through. Public service comes with real responsibility. Decisions about housing, water, infrastructure, budgets, and neighborhood services affect people’s daily lives. My experience as a teacher, housing and water advocate, and community leader has taught me to read the details, work with different perspectives, ask difficult questions, and stay focused on the people affected by each decision. Good intentions are not enough. Governing requires preparation, accountability, follow-through, and the willingness to listen.
